Who says you can't have a little fun after your entire town burns to the ground? With the cameras, recording studio, costumery and prop house destroyed, making this video felt a bit like knocking two rocks together to make a fire.
But it had to be done.
At least getting into character was easy. All I had to do was listen to the track and I snapped right into the mood.
I filmed the video with my cell phone in my mom's spare room with a proverbial gun to my head. That's where I'm living since everything went up in smoke. Far cry from the sets I was drawing up at the old studio, but fuck it, I'll take what I've got and I'll make it work.
I filmed my part at night between midnight and 1AM so I would have enough privacy to go deep fast. I dressed up in my black rubber pants and was lip syncing with a black feather costume on, right deep in the groove, and I look up and my mom is standing in the hallway with her mouth open. I'll never forget the look on her face for the rest of my life! HAHAHAHA!
The next day I got a cheap green screen and figured out how to use it by dressing the twins up like mummies. What I didn't know was that it's supposed to be hung on poles with no wrinkles. Live and learn, live and learnnnnn.
When I watch the video back, I really wish I made an effort to make the room look cool. If I spent some time setting the scene with lights or a backdrop, I would like it a lot more... but it's ok... the next video will be better.
Sound Recording:
This is one of those songs that came to life fast. It started with me on a spooky organ one night playing the bass motif and doing the "Vampires Coming Dooowwwwwn" thing, and the next day "there's something about u baby" came screaming in like a bat out of hell, and that was it. All I had to do was hit record.
It was so much fun!!!!
There's a certain feeling u get when the song starts writing itself, and that was happening with VAMPIRES literally from the first note. It's extra cool that the whole download took two days, and when I came into the studio the second day, the vibe was still there waiting for me and we just picked up right where we left off.
[cue transitional music as I begin to channel the professor]:
// No matter how many incarnations I take on, the dichotomy between dark and light continues to excite me. It's funny how polarities are not just a mental construct but a physical experience here in Density. Coming to Earth is like walking into a hall of mirrors, watching as parts of "yourself" are blurred into dysmorphic contrapositions. But it's all a ride. A ride thru the Fun House.
// What is creativity really? It's listening very closely. Perceiving and opening up to what is already there, waiting to be discovered. It's standing in Perfect Beingness and capturing the light of the Supreme Mind thru the lens of your spirit, transducing the signal, encoding it, downsampling it, processing it thru your brain, filtering it thru your emotions with the depth and power of your heart maintaining its structural integrity, and then outputting it thru the faculties of the human organism such as hands, voice, a flash of the eyes. A stroke of the keyboard.
// No space is empty. Everywhere thought forms are crystallizing into different degrees of materialization. Ideas, energies... embodying or waiting to embody. Waiting for someone to give them form. For someone to give them life.
// as I tell my spawn:
The vibe of a room is the invisible hum from the machine of many thought forms moving together.
All that is to say that Vampires is a vibe. I heard it, I felt it, and I captured it. It was fun as hell.
A look behind the scenes:
Aurora Elysium back stage being turned into a mummy.
Aurora Elysium and Isabella Starlight blocked out on the wrinkly green screen.
Editing the footage for VAMPIRES.
I guess this is a good moment to address what magic powers/scifi thriller means. Magic Powers is me, the superhero me that channels everything thru the CAN-DO-IT CONDUIT. Scifi Thriller is the information field I connect to when I produce certain songs. It's the energy that tells me how to produce the track. Scifi thriller is the man behind the curtain. It has its own mind and its own feelings about things. We don't always agree, but we work very well together. The Scifi Thriller personality doesn't produce all my music though. But it is a recurring personality that has produced many of my songs. VAMPIRES is one of them.
Announcement...1 week before dropping Vampires.
Fun Facts:
Originally the VAMPIRES costume was going to include a black wig. But I shot a take in it and didn't like how it looked, so I took it off and went back to my signature goldilocks. And that's why I have black eyebrows ;)
Oh and also: There are no bad words in this song. If you hear them, it's your mind playing tricks.
