This little comedy gem came about in a few minutes the other day, thanks to an Amazon order that didn't quite live up to expectations.
So the other day an Amazon package arrives, right? Inside was a ruby red bob wig. One of those things that looks fabulous on the model in the ad, but on me it was totally ridiculous. "Does the carpet match the drapes?" Marc teased.
I was standing at the piano (where I spend a good chunk of my day these days) and started playing this little diminished motif, so full of tension it sizzled.
"The carpet doesn't match the draaapes," I sang in the most serious voice I could muster. "Do you think he's gonna notice?"
Marc started laughing and I knew instantly I was going to make this a song. I stood there, fingers on the keys, pen in my mouth, intermittently playing the motif and writing down everything girls stress out about when it comes to sex and grooming.
Let's just say there were a lot of possibly lyrics I didn't choose to voice.
Obviously this is comedy... and I think in order for something to be funny it has to be, at least, a little bit true.
