This song is what happens when you pair a mic with a $5 garage sale synth. I wrote this in the summer of 2020, a month or two before the fire wiped out my studio (and life as I knew it). This song was lost in the flames, but in the months following the fire, before I was able to rebuild my studio, I had nothing but a mic and this cheap synth, and I remade it. It doesn't sound anywhere near as good as it did in its original incarnation, but it stood as a symbol to myself that I wouldn't be giving up. Even in the face of this strange kind of death.
This song was inspired by a dream, and then channeled in its entirety from that invisible radio in the sky. It was a hot summer day in my former home... nestled in that pastoral borderland between Ashland and Talent, OR. I'd been napping in a big orange velvet vintage easy chair on my front porch, dreaming those vivid lucid dreams that have come to characterize my life.
In my dream I punched my fist thru a wall because I understood that it was only a mental construct, and I wanted to penetrate into the other dimensions. Ever since I was a very young girl, I've had dreams with the recurring theme of being in a mundane location that simply had to be penetrated by the power of belief to reveal the portal to other dimensions that I've always understood is a thing that really exists.
So I woke up from this dream and heard the line "fiiiiiist thru the wall, touching in on a new dimension" in my head. It was so clear.
I grabbed my notebook and spent the next hour downloading this song line by line. Some of the lines came very quickly.... then there would be silence.... then another line.... silence.... a few more lines. I downloaded the verses in the opposite order and understood intuitively that the verse I downloaded first was actually the second verse. And the second was the first. Then I had the song and knew it was complete:
If I didn't know
I got a whole world inside my face
If I didn't know
There's so much beyond just time and space
I'm ready to fly
I'm ready to be the bigger thing
The dead never die
Life This is a never-ending ring
First thru the wall
Touching Is in on a new dimension
Hasten The call
Coming home has my full attention
All of this pain
And all of this love
For all it's worth
I'll see you again
I cannot get enough of planet Earth
If I didn't know
I might be sad to say goodbye
But on with the show!
I'll be back in the twinkling of an eye
